Bonjour! My name is Melissa and I'm a wedding and portrait photographer in the Pacific Northwest. This blog is where I want to tell you the beautiful stories of my clients, share their weddings, and give you a behind the scenes peek of this crazy business that I love. 02. About Us
“Oh my god, this is all becoming real.” Daniel looked up at me with tears in his eyes as he had just gathered his wedding day clothes on the bed. I could feel the tears well up in mine as I looked at him and I could feel a fraction of what he was feeling. I had known Daniel for a little over four years. I could remember the first time he had introduced me to Scott and we shared a meal together in Phoenix. I could remember thinking how wonderful it was that he had found some one who had balanced him so well. I looked into his eyes on the morning of his wedding day and I could see all hours of dreaming and planning their life together. All of the hours of visualizing, and then creating, a wedding weekend that was perfectly them. In that moment, I looked into Daniel’s eyes and could see a feeling of sweet relief wash over him. Not just that the wedding day was going as planned, but that they had made it. That they were surrounded by their “champions” (a word used repeatedly throughout the wedding to describe those attending), and it was happening. Despite all the peaks and valleys of life, heartbreak and hopefulness, they had finally found their person. And today was their wedding day.
It was beautiful in every possible way. A local destination wedding in Tubac, Arizona at a stunning resort, in which a small group of family and friends gathered to surround Daniel and Scott in love. Every component of their wedding day was thought out and done with purpose. As an event planner himself, Daniel had meticulously designed every detail. It was an experience and a space that I still get goosebumps thinking about.
Before the ceremony processional even began, a reading was given by a close friend. A reading that was full of love, hope, and the story of Daniel and Scott’s journey together. Before she was finished speaking, the music slowly faded in, and one by one, each member of the wedding party walked down the aisle. Each friend, a pivotal person in getting Scott and Daniel to this moment, gathered at the front of the ceremony and watched as the grooms met at the back of aisle, clasped hands, and practically ran towards the alter together with shear joy spread across their faces. As the ceremony completed, I couldn’t stop the stream of tears that were constantly coming down my face. I knew how hard they fought for this. I knew how badly they had yearned for this day, which was long before they knew each other. And this was it… surrounded by love, support, and their champions, they did it.
The entire evening was full of stories of hope, triumph, and community. A beautiful meal shared al fresco amongst friends and family, laughter echoing throughout the chilly desert night. Despite the temperature dipping as the hours quickly passed, we all danced under the stars until the very end, as this was a love worth celebrating.
Daniel and Scott, I’m a better person having met you. I’m a better person having witnessed your marriage, and I’m a better person imagining the good that you two will bring to the world, together, as husband and husband. I love you both so much and it has been an absolute honor documenting your legacy. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. xoxo, Melissa
