Bonjour! My name is Melissa and I'm a wedding and portrait photographer in the Pacific Northwest. This blog is where I want to tell you the beautiful stories of my clients, share their weddings, and give you a behind the scenes peek of this crazy business that I love. Grab a glass of champagne, snuggle up, and get lost in love stories... xoxo
02. About Us
Some of my earliest childhood memories come from Roche Harbor. Every summer spent with my family cruising through the San Juan Islands, waking up to the crisp salty air and the sound of the water lapping on the side of the boat. The smell of vanilla coffee permeating as we would slowly get moving and beg our parents to go get doughnuts. Our days spent running up and down the cobblestone, twirling in the gardens, fishing from the dock, swimming until bed time. As a kid, I never experienced Disneyland, but I was pretty dang sure this was better than that. Roche Harbor was a magical place where the rest of the world didn’t exist.
The second my feet touched the ground, it was like time had never moved the past 30 years. I was overcome with emotion as the same familiar smells hit me. I walked the cobblestone streets with a permanent grin stuck to my face, knowing that in this moment, my childhood was very much alive.
Some would say planning an outdoor garden in April in the PNW is risky. But without risk, comes no reward. The sleepy harbor woke up on April 16th to blue skies and a blanket of warm sunshine. Courtney was surrounded by friends and family as they all helped her do her hair and get ready. Tyler was this perfect combination of calm and anticipation. And from the very second their eyes locked as she walked down the aisle toward him, it’s like the rest of the world fell away. It was just them. And we were just spectators to one of the greatest love stories that ever existed.
Courtney and Tyler, thank you for giving more to me then I could ever give to you. Truly. You took me back to not only one of my favorite places on this earth, but back to one of my happiest memories as a child. As you vowed your lives to each other, my lips quivered and the tears gushed down my face, because never in my life would I have imagined standing in that exact spot, witnessing two people who couldn’t love each other more. It was more than a privilege, it was more than an honor, it was magic. Thank you doesn’t even begin to express my gratitude. -Melissa
